4 Tips for Beginner Yogis
Trying yoga for the first time? Yoga has many benefits for the mind and body. Here are four tips to use if you’re new to yoga:
Start at Your Fitness level
To learn foundation poses, alignment and breathing fundamentals take a beginner’s class or gentle class. These classes move at a slower pace so that you can comfortably learn postures and breathwork.
Arrive to Class a Little Early
Try to arrive at your firstclass at least 10 minutes early. Introduce yourself to the instructor and find a comfortable spot to get settled. This will leave you less anxious for your first yoga experience.
Listen to Your Body
If you feel pain or that your breathing is unsteady in a pose, err on the side of caution and come out of the pose. Yoga should not be painful.
Be Consistent
Try a variety of classes and instructors to find the right fit for you. Over time you’ll experience the benefits of yoga.
