Back pain affects the majority of the population these days. So often I hear about new or reoccurring injuries from members. The common symptoms I see are numbness and tingling, pain along the lower back, burning down the leg, or pain when remaining in one position for an extended period of time. For many people what they are actually suffering from is Sciatica.
The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the lower extremity which begins at the back and runs down to the foot. Sciatica will usually affect one side of the body. Many times this pain may be caused by postural changes from activities of daily living or exercising with poor form. Although in some cases the pain may be caused by degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, or spondylolisthesis (vertebral body slips forward).
What can you do to alleviate the symptoms?
