June is National Men’s Health Month. The primary purpose of this month is to increase awareness of preventable health problems men face and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among males.
We are all familiar with heart disease, prostate cancer, obesity, and diabetes; four of the major causes of death for men. The month of June serves as a reminder to get screened, and, if necessary, begin treatment for these and a host of other health issues that men may face.
At Valley Health Wellness & Fitness Center, we see men dealing with the above issues on a daily basis. Whether they are enrolled in one of our Medical Fitness Next Steps programs or using the center on their own, they are making daily efforts to deal with their health issues.
We encourage men to take the opportunity to do safe, healthy activities to help cope with the diseases that come with age, heredity, behaviors, etc. Each day is a chance to do something to help improve your life in some form. This month, why not increase your activity? There are so many things you can do to become more active, something suitable for all ages and abilities. Maybe do something as simple as taking a walk, riding a bike, or going for a swim. Use the links below for more ideas.
Wear a Blue Ribbon during this month to show your support of National Men’s Health Month and to increase awareness of men’s health issues. After all, men make up half of the human race, so they deserve a ribbon, too.
