Congratulations to our very own Brittany Ward, lifeguard at VHWFC, for being accepted into the United States Navy after a 10-month weight-loss campaign! At age 19, Brittany has started a health & fitness revolution among her family & friends. She was told back in March by a Navy Recruiter that she had tons of potential, but needed to lose some pounds and increase her fitness to be accepted. The very next day, she began taking action.
By increasing her daily activity (through exercising at the gym and with Wii fitness games) and improving her diet, Brittany has lost 40lbs. over the past 10 months! She scored in the 88th percentile in the nation on her ASVAB (required military testing protocols). But not only have Brittany’s actions affected her own life, she’s created some weight-loss waves among those she knows. Her parents joined her in these lifestyle changes and have lost 20-30lbs. each. One of her friends and his mom and sister have also lost significant amounts as a direct result of Brittany’s inspiring story. She has literally caused a ripple effect that has revolutionized the lives of others.
We’re very proud of her accomplishments so far and will continue to cheer her on in her new adventure. She’ll be officially sworn in to the Navy in a few days and ship out for basic training in about 8 weeks. We should all let Brittany’s story motivate us to be a catalyst of change among our family, friends, and co-workers. One person can make a difference!
Please congratulate Brittany on her good news when you see her!
