January historically is the month of “New Year Resolutions” so what a great time to celebrate National Lose Weight, Feel Great Month! Let’s support each other in making this year a “This is the LAST Year I Make Weight Loss my Resolution”! You are going to achieve goals this year and if weight loss is one of them, whether you reach your full goal or a partial goal, you have no intention of gaining that weight back! But let’s talk about how we can make that happen.
How often have you heard such phrases: “Losing weight equals moving more and eating less;” “toning up means lighter weights for more reps;” “running faster equates to including intervals?” There are truths to those statements; however, our bodies are not mass-produced in cookie-cutter fashion. In approaching weight loss, we must consider multiple factors.
The first step on any fitness journey is to step back and consider the bigger picture of your individual environment. Many facets of your life impact your ability to achieve and sustain your goals and to live the life you deserve and desire. Consider four keys: Move, Nourish, Recover, and Believe.
These four areas will help you determine if you are “Surviving or Thriving”. Truth be told, your body is not concerned with achieving your weight loss goals if it feels like it is in survival mode – lacking quality nutrition, not getting enough sleep, relying on caffeine for energy, practicing negative self-talk, or making your health last priority on your jammed to-do list.
Here is the more important question: Are you willing to make some fundamental changes to your environment to achieve a “thriving” lifestyle or do you just want insta-fixes that result in short-term results that will backpedal and leave you feeling defeated?
Move
Nourish
Recover
Believe
Imagine a thriving lifestyle where you wake up feeling refreshed and energetic. You have time to eat meals and taste them and the food leaves you feeling nourished and vital. You have confidence in your own strength and a mental clarity that gets you through not only your exercise at the gym, but your daily demands of living. By taking care of your body’s fundamental needs for healthy movement, quality nourishment, relaxation, and a positive mindset, you are on a course for vitality, strength, and the life you deserve!
