What makes a medical fitness facility different than a traditional health club or gym? According to the Medical Fitness Association (MFA),
“Certified medically integrated fitness centers feature the professional expertise and programming necessary to safely and effectively assist people, regardless of their current health status, to develop, initiate, and maintain an active lifestyle that minimizes the risk of illness and disease and promotes health and wellness.”
This means that facilities certified by the MFA must have medically focused fitness programs in place to help cut the risk of disease and promote a healthy lifestyle. In order for a center to become certified, they must go through a rigorous testing process to prove they meet the requirements and goals established by the Medical Fitness Association.
