Mary Ann wanted to prepare for her total knee replacement surgery. She joined a Next Steps™ fitness program: Fit for Surgery. The eight-week program included a Polar BodyAge® fitness assessment, supervised workouts and a personalized workout plan created by a fitness specialist.
Mary Ann’s fitness plan also included 2- 3 days of exercise in the warm water therapy pool and a healthy eating program with a nutritionist. She lost 15 pounds before her surgery and gained strength in her muscles and joints. After a successful surgery, she knew that she wanted to incorporate exercise into her recovery.
Mary Ann worked with two physical therapists at Valley Health & Wellness & Fitness Center. The expert training and advice she received from her therapists was invaluable. Within five weeks, she completed her rehab program and felt as confident after surgery as she had during the Fit for Surgery program.
Reflecting on her overall experience before and after surgery, Mary Ann says, “If it hadn’t been for the excellent staff who helped me every bit of the way, my friends would not be saying ‘You walk so well we didn’t even know you had a knee replacement.’ Thank you to all for such a great job!”
